Christmas Sheep

It took me ten minutes to assemble the Christmas tree this afternoon, and even less time to regret putting it up as Fargo began launching himself into our four-foot, plastic Virginia Pine and ripping down both my Christmas ornaments. Yes, you read that right– both my Christmas ornaments– as in I currently only have two. It dawned on me that I’ll have to sew one every night until Christmas in order to fill up the tree. The two-foot Christmas tree that I stuck my nose up at is looking more and more appealing.

Here is a closer look at my latest creation:

Sewn Sheep Christmas OrnamentI was really quite proud of this one, so I pranced into the bedroom, where Jon was taking his Sunday nap. The plan was to shuffle as loudly as possible across the carpet so that it would seem as though he had woken up on his own accord, and then I would sweetly share with him our newest ornament, after which, he would thank me for the wonderful creation. Except that’s not how it played out.

I shuffled indiscreetly across the carpet, and Jon raised his head to look at me. Instead of greeting me with a bleary-eyed stare, he grimaced at me. He may have even snarled, but I didn’t let that deter me. I presented to him our beautiful new ornament, and he responded with, “What is that?”

I was taken aback. I squeaked and scoffed at him, “What do you mean ‘what is it’? I think it’s pretty obvious.”

He continued to grimace at me or just in my general direction and said, “…come on”.

“It’s a sheep,” I said, “It’s a sheep wearing a green ribbon, and I can’t believe you can’t tell”, and then I stormed out of the room and proceeded to send a picture of my sheep wearing a green ribbon to family members (to which one responded with, “is that a snowman’s face?”) and uploading it to instagram for validation that it turned out all right.

Now that I’ve had the opportunity to look at it a little more closely and critically, I realize that I forgot to sew on its legs, so if I’m being entirely honest, it sort of looks like a lumpy little ghost singing Christmas carols.

For the record though, it’s a sheep.

I found the resemblance, after a few minutes. It would help if you write “sheep” on it so people will know. Or sew on the legs. Or both, so that people don’t think it’s a lumpy little ghost with 4 legs

Lol! I thought you were going for a scary Christmas theme this year. I swear, it looks like a ghost to me. But hey, at least you made something. I can’t make anything to save my life. Lol.

Great post! I had actually consider making a few handmade ornaments for my christmas tree this year, and you just encouraged me to actually do a few.

Aw yiss! I really do hope you decide to make a few handmade ornaments (just not a whole tree full of them like I’m doing because as it turns out, that is madness!). It really is sort of fun and fulfilling to create them and hang them up on the tree afterward, even if they are sort of lumpy or awkward looking.

I think it looks like a sheep!! hehe, But that’s awesome that you make your own christmas decorations! ME TOO. Although I was pretty slack this year since my mum wanted a peacock themed tree (usually I make kusudama balls and origami stars for our tree) so I stuck to making some banners and hopefully I’ll make a Christmas wreath too *nods* But YOUR SHEEP IS CUTE. XD
Thanks for stopping by @ Paper Fury!

Thank you so much! I’ve seen your origami stars, and I think they’re very beautiful. Paper crafts seem so much more ambitious than sewing projects to me. I remember trying to make paper cranes and simple paper boxes in art class, and I failed miserably.

I love your sheep!! I honestly wasn’t sure what it was at very first glance *hangs head in shame* but now that you say it’s a sheep, I TOTALLY see it!! Great job!! I’m so not crafty. Lol

Ha! It’s okay, you don’t have to hang your head in shame. I don’t think anyone really knew what that this ornament was supposed to be. Both of my parents asked me if it was a ghost!

These sewing posts are cracking me up so much. I love the two ornaments (just generally that you have only two, but also the two ornaments themselves and also also you can always call it minimalism) and to be honest I thought it was a panda at first glance, but at least I thought it was a good looking panda? 😀

You know, pandas happen to be one of my favorite animals. I was going for kind of an American Farmhouse Kitschy theme, but I might have to break that to make a panda (maybe I will luck out and it will end up looking like a sheep…)
