Blackberry Hand Pies and Engagements

blackberry engagement

I have an announcement!

I baked some semi-homemade, blackberry hand pies, and they were delicious.

Also, I’m engaged!

Honestly, I’ve stared at this blank space for far too long, trying to think of what words to follow “Also, I’m engaged!” It’s a challenge because I have no romantic engagement story to tell. We didn’t steal away for a romantic evening somewhere. We didn’t have our friends and family around to film the whole thing. There weren’t even flowers involved. Instead, I was in various stages of undress because I was about the jump in the shower when Jon rounded the corner to the hallway and said something along the lines of, “You know I love you, right?” Which immediately made my heart pause because what usually follows that question is terrible news, like:

You know I love you, right? Well, I just spent my entire paycheck on Terminator DVDs and this collectible Batman action figure.

or

You know I love you, right? Well, I accidentally left the door open, and our cat ran away. But it’s okay because I just adopted dog.

or

You know I love you, right? Well, I think Harry Potter is kind of lame and Hermione is an insufferable know-it-all

Luckily, none of those scenarios actually occurred. Instead, Jon got down on one knee, pulled out a ring box, opened it, and asked me to marry him. The appropriate response would have been to utter “yes!” through blubbering sobs, but with all the grace of a deer in headlights, I asked, “Are you serious? Is this a joke?” I mean, eventually I blubbered “yes!”, but he had to assure me several times that this was real life.

We are planning for the wedding to take place in October 2016. This means I should be hitting the ground running these next few weeks to seek out and secure a venue, but instead I find myself procrastinating by looking at color schemes and wedding pies and apple cider stations on Pinterest.

Hahahhaah! Oh I hate when my husband starts off with that.

Anyway, congratulations! I didn’t have a very good engagement story either, but hey, we’ve been doing this marriage thing for 17 years, so i don’t think it matters much. 🙂

Congratulations! 🙂 I like your engagement story very much.

Ooh, and an autumn wedding? I bet it’s going to be beautiful. And Pinterest is great for this sort of thing, but it can be a huge time sink, that’s true. But it did help me pick a bouquet and a rough color scheme for our wedding, so that was useful. 🙂 Good luck with the planning!

Congratulations!! Such wonderful news! I wish you so, so much happiness- and so much fun planning the wedding! Think of it as fun, not stressful. Eat the food.Have an amazing time with your loved ones. And remember- if something doesn’t go as planned, you’re the only ones who knew it was supposed to be different- no one else will notice a thing 😉 Enjoy every minute!!

Omgosh congratulations! I think your engagement story is beautiful – it’s so down to earth and encapsulates what true love is. You don’t need all the added stuff, it was still very romantic. Wow, October is very soon!! Good luck with the planning, I can’t wait to see photos 😀

ABOUT BGO!

Hello, my name is Jackie. I’m a thirty-something mother of a rambunctious toddler from a small town in Michigan. When I’m not toddler-wrangling, I’m often seeking refuge from life’s most chaotic moments in a cup of hot tea. I also love getting lost in stories—both in books and virtually. I enjoy speculative fiction the most, and I am especially eager to read fantasy novels and horror novels. When I’m feeling especially indulgent (usually after everyone in the house has gone to sleep), I like to dive into video games and explore the sprawling worlds in Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age, and Mass Effect.
