Library loot updated10/20/25

My current batch of library loot includes:

  • They Can’t Kill Us Until Kills Us by Hanif Abdurraqib – an essay collection that explores race, culture, and life in America through the lens of music.
  • The House At Riverton by Kate Morton – a story of a mysterious death at the home of an aristocrat in 1924, revealed through the flashbacks of a former servant. This one was recommended for fans of Downton Abbey, which I’m very much in the mood for right now.
  • The Crossover by Kwame Alexander – A YA novel centering on twin brothers, who love basketball, and it explores themes of brotherhood and family. I borrowed this one because it won the Newberry back in 2015, and I’m trying to read my way through this award list.
  • The Poisoner’s Ring by Kelley Armstrong – Minutes after finishing A Rip Through Time, I dragged the kiddo over to the library on his day off from school to grab book two in the series. In this installment, Mallory, a modern-day homicide detective, is still trapped in Victorian Scotland, but she is learning to acclimate to life in the past. She’s also openly assisting Duncan Grey solve crimes– the most recent being a handful of husbands who have been poisoned.
